Privacy Policy for Wearroom

Wearroom Privacy Policy

Wearroom has no sign-up and no server operated by the developer. There is no place for your information to be sent to us.

If you choose to, you can connect your own Google account and back up to your own Google Drive. When you do, your clothing photos and closet data leave the device. Section 5 states exactly what leaves, when, and where it goes.

Effective date: 27 September 2026

At a glance

  • Personal information collected by the developer: none
  • Developer-operated server: none. There is no path by which your data could reach us
  • Sign-up: none. A Google sign-in is needed only if you use backup, and the whole app works without it
  • Advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs: none. One exception, on both Android and iPhone: Google's text-recognition component, which is inside the app, reports its own usage statistics to Google. Not your photos and not the text it read — see section 4
  • Where your photos and clothing data live: on this device, and — if you run a backup — in your own Google Drive
  • Sharing with third parties or processors: none. A backup is between you and Google; the developer is not in the middle
  • The ways data can end up off the device: the Google Drive backup you run yourself and the operating system backup you have switched on — two in all. See sections 5 and 6. The app has no way to export your closet to a file (section 7)

1. Personal information we collect

The developer collects no personal information.

The app has no sign-up that reaches us, no email or phone number entry, and no advertising identifier collection. It does not create or store any value that identifies you.

If you sign in with Google to use Drive backup, the app reads your Google account's email address and name in order to show you which account it is connected to. That value is used only to draw that screen. It is not transmitted to the developer and the developer does not store it. If you do not sign in, none of this happens.

So that the backup and restore sheets can check the connection again next time, the app keeps a small file in its storage that records only whether this device has ever connected a Google account ({"version":1,"connected":true}). It contains no email address and no name. This file is not uploaded to your Google Drive backup, and it is marked to be left out of Android's operating system backup and device-to-device transfer. On iPhone it may be included in iCloud Backup along with the rest of the app's storage.

2. What the app holds, and where

Everything you put into the app is listed below. Its default location is this device's private app storage.

  • Clothing photos — taken in the app, imported from your gallery, and background-removed results
  • Clothing details — name, category, brand, size, color, season, occasion, material, notes, price, model number, and whether the item is on your wish list (a planned purchase)
  • Outfit layouts and outfit cover images
  • Wear logs — dates and what you wore
  • Body measurements — height, shoulder, bust, waist, hip, inseam. These are optional; the app works fully without them

This data leaves the device only in the two cases described in sections 5 and 6, and both are started or switched on by you.

Photos you take or import are re-encoded at display size when saved, so metadata from the original file — including GPS location and camera information (EXIF) — is not carried into the app's storage. What a backup uploads is that re-encoded photo, so capture locations do not travel with your backup either. When you import from your photo library, the short-lived copy of the original made while reading it (iPhone) is deleted when the import finishes, and any copy left by an abrupt shutdown is deleted the next time you import.

3. Permissions

The app uses the following permissions.

  • Camera — to photograph clothing during registration. It runs only on the capture screen, and no audio is recorded.
  • Photos / Gallery — to import clothing photos you already have. The app reads only the photos you select.
  • Internet (Android) — used for Google Drive backup and restore. The Google component that reads clothing-tag text also uses it to report its own usage statistics to Google (section 4). Google is the only destination it reaches.

You can decline both the camera and photo permissions and still use the app. The "Pick" registration path adds clothing without any photo at all, so neither camera nor gallery access is needed. You can revoke them at any time in your system settings; anything you already added stays.

Android does not prompt for the internet permission, so there is no button to decline it. What limits it instead is that the app sends your data out only during a backup or a restore. If you never use backup, your photos and clothing data never leave the device. The text-recognition component's usage statistics, described above, are sent regardless of backup (section 4). iPhones have no separate internet permission to list, but the same component sends the same statistics there.

4. Internet, third parties, and processors

The only places the data you put into the app travels to over the internet are Google sign-in and Google Drive. The app reaches no other server. On both Android and iPhone there is one more thing on the wire: Google's text-recognition component, which is inside the app, reports its own usage statistics to Google. That is described separately below.

  • The developer operates no server, and does not plan to.
  • No ad network, analytics tool, or crash reporter is included. There is one exception, the usage statistics described below. It is not there to follow you or to measure how you use the app; it is attached by Google to the component that reads clothing-tag text.
  • Your information is not shared with third parties and not handed to processors. A backup is you uploading your own data to your own Google account; the developer is not in that path.

Background removal runs on an AI model shipped inside the app and is computed on your device. Reading the text on a clothing tag is computed on your device as well. Your photos are never sent anywhere to be analyzed. The model is not downloaded at runtime either — it is inside the app from the start.

Usage statistics from the text-recognition component

The app reads clothing-tag text using a component built by Google (ML Kit text recognition) that ships inside the app. Android and iPhone use the same component. The recognition itself finishes on the device, but the component reports statistics about its own use back to Google. Those reports include a value that distinguishes your device, and Google provides no way to switch them off. Including the component was the developer's choice, so we state it plainly.

  • The tag photo and the text read from it are not part of those statistics. Neither the photo nor the text leaves the device.
  • What leaves is Google's own record of how and how often the component ran.
  • The tag photo is not kept. It sits in the device's temporary folder only while you pick a line, and the app deletes it when you close that screen or retake the photo. If the app is shut down abruptly while that screen is open, the photo it could not delete is deleted the next time you open the tag-photo screen. All that remains is the one line of text you chose yourself.
  • The statistics go to Google and are subject to Google's privacy policy. The developer never receives or sees them.
  • Because Android and iPhone read tags with the same component, these statistics are sent the same way on both.

5. Google Drive backup

If you uninstall the app or change phones, the data on the device is gone. There is no developer server to recover it from. So the app lets you back up directly to your own Google Drive.

When it uploads

  • Only when you press the backup button under [Settings] > Google Drive backup.
  • There is no automatic backup, no scheduled backup, and no background sync. The app never uploads on its own.
  • If you never press it, nothing is ever uploaded.
  • Opening the backup or restore sheet uploads nothing. When a sheet opens, the app only checks the account it is already connected to, and it re-establishes the connection only if this device has connected a Google account before. At that moment on Android, if more than one Google account has allowed this app, or if you removed the app's access in your Google account settings, an account picker may appear once. Any other Google sign-in or consent window appears only after you press a button.

Where it goes

  • Into the app data folder (appDataFolder) inside your own Google Drive. It goes from your device straight to Google without passing through any developer server.
  • That folder is a hidden area of Drive: it does not appear in your Drive file list, and only this app can read or write it.
  • The Google permission the app requests covers that one folder. It cannot read or even see any other file you keep in Drive.

What is uploaded

  • Clothing photos — the re-encoded photo the app saved, plus a small file recording the area removed as background
  • Clothing details, outfit layouts, wear logs, body measurements, and categories

Thumbnails and composited cut-out images are not uploaded: with the photo and the removed-area file, a restoring device can rebuild them. Uploaded files count against your Google Drive storage quota.

A backup replaces the backup in Drive

  • A backup is not a merge. Backing up replaces the backup in your Google Drive with this device's current closet, and deletes from Drive the photos of garments that are not on this device. Garments you deleted on this device are uploaded with a deletion mark, and their photos stay in Drive.
  • If the Drive backup contains garments that are not on this device, or if this device has no garments at all, the app asks you once more inside the sheet before uploading. It also asks when it could not check which garments the Drive backup contains. Garments you deleted on this device do not count as "not on this device".
  • If the app cannot check the backup in Drive (the connection dropped, or the backup contents cannot be read), it uploads nothing.
  • To bring a backup made on another device onto this one, use [Settings] > Google Drive restore instead of backup.

Who can see it

  • You and this app.
  • The developer cannot see this data. There is no developer server, and no way for the developer to reach your Google account.
  • Backed-up data is stored in your Google account and is subject to Google's privacy policy.

Google API Services User Data Policy (Limited Use)

The app's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data obtained from Google Drive is:

  • used only for the backup and restore you asked for,
  • never transferred or sold to third parties,
  • never used for advertising,
  • never read by humans.

How to delete it, and how to disconnect

  • Delete the backup: in a desktop browser, drive.google.com > Settings > Settings > Manage apps, then Delete hidden app data for Wearroom
  • Disconnect the account: myaccount.google.com > Security > Your connections to third-party apps & services, then remove access for Wearroom
  • In the app: use Switch account in the [Settings] > Google Drive backup (or restore) sheet to connect a different account

6. Operating system backups

Separately from section 5, the automatic backup feature of your operating system also treats the app's storage as backup material. This is done by Android and iOS, not by the app. Since the result is that data leaves the device, we state it plainly.

Android — when Google account backup is on

  • The cloud backup includes the database file holding clothing names, categories, tags, wear logs, and body measurements. It is stored in your Google Drive backup space.
  • Clothing photos are excluded. The app marks the photo folder, the folder holding the automatic pre-restore copy (section 7), the temporary-file folder, and the connection file from section 1 as not eligible for cloud backup.
  • A direct device-to-device transfer to a new phone does include the photos. Temporary files, the automatic pre-restore copy, and the connection file are not transferred. That transfer happens between the two devices and does not go to the cloud.
  • To turn it off: Settings > Google > Backup

iOS — when iCloud Backup is on

  • The app's storage is included in your iCloud backup, and that does include clothing photos.
  • The app marks the automatic pre-restore copy (section 7) and the temporary-file folder as excluded from iCloud Backup.
  • To turn it off: Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup, or switch off Wearroom in the app list on that screen.

These backups are held in your Google or Apple account under that company's privacy policy. The app's developer cannot access them.

7. Automatic copy before a restore

Wearroom has no feature for exporting your closet to a file or importing it from one. Backup and restore happen only through Google Drive (section 5).

Instead, when you start a restore from Google Drive, the app first saves the clothing data and photos currently on the device as a single copy file, right before restoring. It is a safety measure ahead of an operation that cannot be undone.

  • The copy is created inside the app's private storage, and the app sends it nowhere. It is not uploaded to Google Drive either.
  • There is no screen where you can open, take out, or share this copy. The app also currently has no way to restore from it.
  • Only the most recent copy is kept: the previous copy is deleted after the new one has been fully written, and the copy is removed along with the app when you uninstall.
  • It is marked to be left out of operating system backups (section 6).

8. Retention and deletion

  • Data stays on your device until you delete it. We set no retention period.
  • When you delete a garment or a log in the app, it disappears from your lists, but for undo and device transfer it stays on the device with a deletion mark (photos included) and keeps being included in your Google Drive backups. To remove it completely, uninstall the app or delete the hidden app data in Drive (section 5).
  • Uninstalling the app removes everything the app created from the device, including the automatic pre-restore copy in section 7. There is no copy on a developer server, so the app alone cannot recover it. Back up before you change phones or uninstall.
  • A backup uploaded to Google Drive survives uninstalling the app. A garment you deleted in the app stays in the backup with a deletion mark. Section 5 explains how to delete it.
  • Operating system backups (section 6) also survive uninstalling. Delete them in those settings when you no longer want them.

9. Children's privacy

This app is not directed primarily at children under 14. It does not ask for age, and the developer collects no personal information from anyone, children included. No processing therefore requires a guardian's consent.

10. Your rights

Because the developer holds no personal information, there is nothing to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or suspension of processing for. What is inside the app is yours to view, edit, and delete directly. However, garments and logs you delete in the app stay on the device and in your Google Drive backup with a deletion mark, for undo and device transfer (section 8); to remove them completely, uninstall the app or delete the hidden app data in Drive (section 5). Also, the automatic pre-restore copy in section 7 cannot be opened or deleted separately inside the app, and it is removed when you uninstall. A backup uploaded to Google Drive is yours to delete as well (section 5). The app never blocks access to data you have already added, for any reason.

11. Keeping your data safe

  • Photos and the database live in app-private storage that other apps cannot read.
  • All traffic to and from Google Drive uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS). With no developer server in the middle, there is one fewer place it could be intercepted.
  • The Google permission the app holds is limited to its own app data folder, so even in an incident it cannot reach your other Drive files.
  • Every database change goes through migration verification so an app update cannot lose existing data.
  • Right before a restore from Google Drive, the app keeps one copy of the current closet inside the app (section 7).

12. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we update this text with the app release and change the effective date. Changes that disadvantage users are announced here 30 days before they take effect.

5. Google

Google API

Android — Google
